So you’re an independent game developer and you have just developed your first game. How are you going to get it out there? Social media marketing, yes, but exactly how do you put that to use? It’s quite simple, really: just look at what the big brands in the gaming industry are doing!
Simply Measured released a study that gives insight in how the top 100 brands use Twitter to promote themselves and connect to their customers and users. You don’t need to read the entire study to know how valuable Twitter can be as a social media marketing tool; Twitter has over 280 million users worldwide, who are good for more than 500 million tweets per day. 98% of top 100 brands is already convinced of the power of Twitter and have a Twitter account. So if you’re smart, you better not stay behind and hop on the bandwagon!
Allright, let’s say you’ve created a Twitter account with a nice avatar and description of your brand. Now how are you going to use it? Your Twitter strategy is important, because once you gain some followers, you need to make sure you don’t lose them. A good way to start is to look at how the big brands are doing it.
94% of all brands on Twitter send at least one Tweet per day, and 75% at least three Tweets per day. The number of Tweets is of course up to you, but keep in mind that quality is better than quantity. You don’t want to come across as a spammer!
Don’t always know what to tweet? Try thinking outside those 150 characters; roughly 50% of all Tweets are actually visual content. Images and videos are an excellent way to entertain your followers or generate curiosity, without increasing the number of posts.
Also keep in mind that Twitter is not meant as a one-way street. More and more brands are interacting with their users; around 70% of all tweets are @Replies.
