The Chrome apps for mobile are some of the most ingenious things on our smartphones, but having new updates coming from them will certainly improve our experience quite a lot. The new updates added recently provide a new Chrome API that targets rich notifications, cloud messaging and identity. Alongside these wonderful changes, Google has also made some very impressive changes in regards to the development workflow by adding WebView capabilities to the older Android versions that are still available on the market.
The Chromium WebView function has been implemented with the KitKat version, but now all devices that have at least Android 4 can take full advantage of it. The support can be added with the help of the Crosswalk project.
We think that porting web applications to native Chrome apps for mobile is really impressive and the results are astonishing. Google has ported numerous apps until now in order to show off the functionality of the new features and it’s safe to say that this is an astounding achievement.
The new features added through this update certainly make the technology even better. Through the newly added live deploy feature the developers can actually check out any changes in the code right on their iOS or Android device without any hassle. The feature has been implemented in the Chrome Apps for mobile command line tool, but also in the Chrome Dev Editor, and this means that you can easily test your app immediately.
While the technology is surely going to evolve in the near future, the reality here is that Google wants developers to create similar experience for both iOS, desktop and Android devices. We are sure that this is going to happen sooner rather than later. The way this is done is basically a native shell will be wrapped within the Chrome App and Cordova plugins. Thanks to this tech, developers can create applications that are both iOS and Android compliant, which reduces the development time if they would like to make different versions for those platforms.
With the Chrome Apps for Mobile technology Google is set to change the technology world once again. Although the tech is still in infancy for the time being, we are sure that more and more applications will start using it, so the future does look really promising.
