Following the official release of iOS 8, Cupertino-based tech company Apple has revealed a number of new features for its iOS App Store. First up is the ability for developers to sell bundles of apps via their account and at a certain discount. The bundles allows Apple App Store users the option to buy multiple games or apps at once.
The new feature currently on offer has bundles on sale containing between two and nine apps, with groups of three and four being the most common. They are currently sorted into three categories: Apps, Games and Kids. Via a bundle icon the user has the option to open a sheet with links to each individual app. The total sale price of all combined apps and the price before discount are being displayed as well. After the single purchase, the Apple user will receive all the individual apps on his or her device.
There is an easy solution for those of you who already own one or more apps inside a bundle. You now have the option to complete the bundle at a lower price level. You will be able to purchase the remaining ones for a special price, lower than the bundle’s original price. In addition to purchasing bundles for yourself, you can also gift them to friends and family that have iOS devices, just like with any other app.
The first bundles have already been released in the App Store. Readdle offers a bundle, which includes PDF Expert 5, Printer Pro, Scanner Pro and Calendars 5. The Pixite Photo Kit consists of Union, Matter, Fragment, Tangent and LoryStripes, all of which cost $1,99 individually but are offered for the combined price of $7,99. This saves you almost up to $1,99, getting one app for free.
Dedicated app developers are only allowed to offer bundles when their price is lower than the sum of the prices of the individual apps, creating a strong incentive for customers to buy more apps and in greater quantity. The maximum amount of apps per bundle is ten with an app not being able to appear in more than three bundles at any time. Bundles will only contain apps that are also available individually. In the case of kids’ apps which fall into multiple age rating bands, the highest age rating will apply to the entire bundle.
There is more
Other new features in the App Store are the new App Store search, which has been expanded with suggestions for related apps, and app listings can now feature video demos of apps alongside screenshots. Editor’s Choice apps will now feature a new logo to better differentiate them from the 1.2 million other apps in the store. The tech company has also started highlighting apps, which use its new Metal framework for 3D graphics programming such as “Enhanced by Metal”. The App Store in iOS 8 has received a minor enhancement with a new Explore tab that highlights interesting apps across categories.
