A report created by Ericsson recently has shown that the mobile market is expanding at a very rapid pace and, what even more interesting, almost every person over the age of 6 will have such a device until 2020. In fact, the company states that there will be around 6.1 billion devices available globally, more than double the number that we can find now, which is 2.7 billion.
The regions where mobile phone coverage is still lacking are China, India and other Asian countries that are still well behind the advancements in other regions of the world. Those countries do have a major increase in phone usage, but the reality is that less than half of that is for smartphones, mainly because these devices are still too expensive when compared to the current economy.
The interesting thing about the mobile phone predictions comes from the fact that there will be an increase in mobile video calls. On top of that, the emphasis for the carriers will be to provide better data plans that will make it even easier for persons to have mobile access wherever they go. In many regions all over the world these plans are still very restrictive and expensive, the main reason why people are still on the fence about purchasing a smartphone. In fact, many persons are accessing the mobile web via a router installed at home, because otherwise it would be much more expensive for them.
Currently, it’s important to know that the streaming of digital music found online as well as video services make the most of mobile web usage, but as time evolve we can see a major increase in this regard. In fact, in 2020 we will be able to get a fully networked society that will be much more receptive to web and web usage, as more and more people are getting access to it. Companies will also have a lot to benefit from this, because this way they will get an unique opportunity to stand out and access more persons.
Of course, there will also be the introduction of 5G services that will make the web access from mobile be even more easier to perform and access. While we don’t know if this will be backwards compatible with the previous versions, it’s still one major accomplishment of mobile phone tech that we want to see.
In the end, the fact that more than 90% of earth’s population will have a smartphone in 2020 clearly shows how fascinated people actually are about smartphones and technology. This is one major accomplishment that many people are looking forward to, as we will be able to connect even further with people that are in remote locations and, of course, we get one step closer to being the man of the future.
