We all know social media plays a crucial role in any online marketing strategy. However, not everyone is aware of the excellent advertising options that Twitter has to offer. In this article we will take a look at why Twitter is so interesting for advertising, what the possibilities are, and how you can use them to promote your game.
At the time I’m writing this, Twitter has more than 270 million monthly active users worldwide. 80% of these users access Twitter from their mobile devices, and most of them use the Twitter app. It is that Twitter app that makes the social network so interesting. Why? Because it offers excellent advertising possibilities! Twitter app advertising is specifically designed for effective targeting. Twitter has huge amounts of interesting data on her users, which I will tell you more about in a second. When this data is analyzed effectively and used the right way, you have everything you need to target the right people, and show them advertisements that are actually relevant to them. And, as you may know, relevant ads automatically lead to more awareness, more interaction and better conversion rates – and, subsequently, more value for your money.
Your targeting options
As I mentioned before, Twitter has a lot of interesting data on her users. You can use this data to target a specific group of users. Check it out:
- Geo-location: the location of the user;
- Gender: you can create specific ads for male and female users;
- Device: you know the brand and type of the mobile device of the user, as well as their operating system;
- Language: you can target a specific language;
- Search: you can target your advertisements based on the terms users have searched for;
- TV: you have information about their favorite TV programs;
- Interests: you have information about their interests;
- Keywords: you can target based on specific words users use in their posts;
- Followers: you can target followers of specific accounts;
- Look-a-likes: you can find and target users that look like the ones you already have.
Needless to say, all this data is incredibly valuable. Because you can target so specifically, you will automatically get better conversion rates. Don’t know where to start? Well, you can begin by targeting users that follow your competitors on Twitter. These users are extremely likely to have interest in your game. It is also a good idea to target users based on interests. There are up to 350 different categories available on Twitter, and by targeting on specific interests you will be more likely to find users that will be interested in what your game has to offer.
However, good advertising is not just about targeting the right audience for your game; you also need to convince your targets to actually click on your ads. And that brings us to…
Your design options
The most direct way of advertising on Twitter is the so-called app card format. This merges your ad seamlessly into the Twitter newsfeed. This way, your ad resembles regular Twitter posts, but is equipped with the additional functionality of a call-to-action button. You can also add a short description of your game. This is how it works: your app card app will appear on a users Twitter feed when they meet one or more of your campaign’s targeting requirements. When the user clicks on the ad, he or she is taken to the app store (or your own website) where your game can be downloaded. After downloading your game, the user is taken back to Twitter. Once the app has been installed successfully, the user receives a notification, through which he or she can also access the game.
It’s as easy as that! Hopefully, Twitter advertising is much more clear to you now. You have all the knowledge you need to use this social network to your advantage and promote your game!
